San Antonio Night Sky

San Antonio is a diverse and beautiful place; from it’s eclectic cultural heritage to its weather extremes.  Rain is most often harsh (bucket-fulls and sometimes horizontal), summers are as hot as you can get in the U.S.A. and we may even have a day of freezing temperatures in the winter.

Currently in June-July when we get rain it often comes with thunderstorms.  These can produce exciting but dangerous lightening events.  As a developing photographer I’m still working on the elusive spectacular lightening photo (I’ll post an update once I get a decent one), but in the meantime I have captured some great night-time photos.  View my gallery for more images: Nature Photography

There are many expert suggestions out there on the best settings for ones camera to capture the best night and lightening pic, but it all comes down to taking multiple photos and adjusting the settings until you get what you want, since the surrounding availability of light greatly impacts the settings.  Don’t forget a flashlight to help view the camera settings.

To create the whispy sky look the lens remained opening for 10 seconds.
